April Chapter Meeting and technical

”Aural Gauge Tools”
Presented by Maggie Jusiel of Chapters 240 Roanoke, VA and 251 West Virginia

Visiting our Chapter all the way from West Virginia, aural instructor at the Butler School of Piano Technology, and a PTG Certified Tuning Examiner, we are excited to host Maggie Jusiel for our April technical.

This is a section of a class Maggie will be teaching at the upcoming convention in Des Moines. It assumes the listener is already familiar with intervals, the harmonic series, interval ratios, beats, the reasons we temper, wide vs narrow intervals, and a basic concept of inharmonicity. This class starts with a short review of temperament, a longer review of inharmonicity, then continues with how aural gauge tools work and ends with examples of them demonstrated on a piano. If time allows, Maggie will also explain how inharmonicity shifts affect how interval relationships can shift.

If someone isn’t familiar with the prerequisites, they can find that information in her “Music Theory for Piano Technicians” YouTube playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6RYO1N8Y1hHMFSz5ybKU4zO4BflLSxKv . Simply scroll to the first video that has information new to you, and start watching there until video “MTPT28”. If you catch an error in a video, note it in a comment and Maggie will send you a prize!

Some of our members have asked that Maggie explain a little more about inharmonicity shifts, so she will include that in her class as time allows.
